News -
This week the chill of this endless spring still lingers, new gardens are cropping up there and there around town with an unusual ehthusiasm and the bears of '09 came to visit us here in Flagstaff out on the east side. One Again, Tyrus and Joni talk about this unusual weather we've been having since early May... Some are calling this unique weather phenom a "Maysoon" rather than the monsoon of, ah..well mid-June ~ it's been just that damp. Two Tyrus and Joni remind their viewers that FLAGNEWS is a community infotainment which has been staffed by volunteers for the last three years, that donations to help underwrite public broadcast of our weekly presentations is awfully appreciated. Three Joni invites Tyrus to go ice skating. We are not too sure we want to see Tyrus with his leg up under a bag of ice for next week's show ~ but we all are looking forward to this year's Stanley Cup final today on the 12th. Four Tyrus asks Joni about her time at this year's Adult Prom over at the Orpheum last week. Joni tells us she went as the "pregnant prom queen" and was accompanied by none other than Jack LaLanne. Five Tyrus riffs on and on on this obscure, yet significant, culinary process of maise corn preparation called nixtamalization. Six This segment is a Mitzy love fest. Seven Tyrus and Joni ...again...adieu ~

Brian Grube - is back with us again this week to host our Parks and Recreation segment It is Summer Camp time again and the City has summer kiddie camp programs that will help keep the kids entertained, amused and, thankfully, outside a little every day. For you parents out there who would like a complete list of Summer Camp opportunities we offer here in our little town you may want to check out FLAGPARENTS.COM.

Kimberly Ott - This week Kimberly warns us of more construction to avoid and announces that the Annual Citizen Survey 2009 is now available on the City website. You may want to peruse the findings ~ see how well your opinions line up with those of your neighbors... All in all it appears that we are happier with City services.

AZDailySun - Editor Randy Wilson hosts our AZ Daily Sun segment this week: Reporter Betsy Bruner tells us about a special couple here in town ~ one with a unique history. Reporter Joe Ferguson has some good news for summer travelers who enjoy the convenience of Horizon Air and AZDailySun City editor Laura Clymer talks with Randy about 2009 being the Summer of the Bear.

James Frazier - "Historic Flagstaff Arizona" These are done for FLAGNEWS by a really first tier commercial artist and compositor ~ James Frazier. So ... if anyone out there is looking to support local artists... TV commercials, anyone?... .you may want to consider James. He provides these vignettes as a gesture of community service. We encourage you to check out his portfolio!

Native American News from Northern Arizona - This month Jamescita Peshlakai took us up to Tuba City to see her daughter get some close up instruction on traditional "blue corn mush" techniques. We think you will find this segment an education in ways you might not have imagined. Part of the process for making this includes the use of cedar ash ~ hmmm. Have a look.

Tony Norris - This week Tony offers one of those classic cowboy tunes you will all probably recognize. Our very own Plato of the pines brings us a righteous spring time poesy moment ~ and a song by Ian Tyson called Navajo Rug . We think you'll like this.

Mitzy Bellini - Just got back from a fishing excursion to Lake Mary where she ended up in the center of the canoe. Mitzy as, usual, has all the tips on the haps in and around our little town by the big mountain. You can always e-mail activities you would like mentioned at mitzybellini@gmail.com
